As the story goes, Ford built two prototypes for a planned 1971 Boss 302 before scrapping the idea and crushing one of the mules; the other one, chassis 100053, was kept as a prototype and later sold as a production car. The Boss 302 had the three major goodies that enthusiasts crave, starting with the very hot shaker hoodscoop for ram air, followed by rear window slats (louvers), and a decklid-mounted rear spoiler. Perkins knows his friend had intentions of "fixing the car," as he has done with other Mustangs. Ford's metallic paints usually didn't hold up very well, but because this one never sat outside in the sun, the original paint is among the best I've even seen.".
