Licensed midwives and EMS personnel are welcome to attend and apply relevant skills during simulation. The course introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation by utilizing a blended learning approach that includes: online testing, online case-based simulations, as well as hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. To become a facilitor, prospective facilitators will now only need to complete five parts. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program is a jointly developed educational program by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association. Part 1, Prestudy: The first part of the course is self-study of the Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation (7th edition). All fees are the responsibility of the registrant and are required at the time of registration. The NRP Course is for all healthcare providers who attend births in low- and high-risk settings, as well as out-of-hospital deliveries. Successful completion of the online exam and the skills demonstration will result in an American Academy of Pediatrics/AHA NRP certification card valid for two years.

You must also complete your classroom portion within 90 days of completing your NRP Online Exam. Prerequisite: Certificate of Completion of Online NRP Exam within 30 days of course start date. Completion of the NRP Provider course does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation. On the day of your classroom session, an instructor will demonstrate the skills and be available to coach you before testing begins. In addition, this course also offers high-fidelity neonatal resuscitation simulation that tailors to the provider’s unique area of practice.

You will be expected to demonstrate basic neonatal resuscitation skills and participate in a team resuscitation and debriefing. The 6th Edition, released in 2011, is based on simulation methodology, enhancing development of critical leadership, communication and team work skills.
