The maximum rated capacity of a safety valve shall be determined by actual steam flow at a pressure of three percent in excess of that at which the valve is set to blow, and with a blowdown in accordance with section 14-9.12 of this Subpart and credited with 90 percent of the flow developed. If the superheater outlet header has a full, free, steam passage from end to end and is so constructed that steam is supplied to it at practically equal intervals throughout its length so that there is a uniform flow of steam through the superheater tubes and the header, the safety valve, or valves, may be located anywhere in the length of the header. Any relocation shall be described on the Report of Alteration. (c)   Each boiler shall have three or more gage cocks, located within the range of the visible length of the water glass, when the maximum allowable working pressure exceeds 15 pounds per square inch, except when such boiler has two water glasses with independent connections to the boiler, located on the same horizontal line and not less than two feet apart. (e)   The valve capacity for each boiler shall be such that the valve or valves will discharge all the pressure that can be generated by the boiler without allowing the pressure to rise more than six percent above the highest pressure at which any valve is set and in no case to more than six percent above the maximum allowable working pressure. Safety valves shall be of the direct spring loaded pop type, with seat inclined at any angle between 45 and 90 degrees, inclusive, to the center line of the spindle. (jj)   Safety valve means an automatic pressure relieving device actuated by the static pressure upstream of the valve and characterized by full-opening pop action.
