With racism, however, one race dislikes another race. After Chinese workers drove the last spike in America’s transcontinental railroad, Congress banned Chinese immigration for two decades. From the earliest days of European colonialism to the present, tensions between so-called nativists and immigrants have been a recurring theme in American history.
